159 Fundraisers – 1,688 Donors – $105,000+ Raised!!!!

After a successful Winter Open in San Diego, we returned to where it all started at Bunnell High School in Stratford, Connecticut for our fifth annual Tap Cancer Out Spring BJJ Open and the debut event to benefit our 2016/17 TCO beneficiary partner, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

460 grapplers from all across the Northeast came together and set new records for both attendance and fundraising. Fred Macaluso from American Top Team CT/KORE BJJ took home the top fundraising award with $4,990 raised. Alyson Alberino from Soulcraft BJJ took home the first ever Michael Corb Top Children’s Fundraiser award with $4,057 raised. The award was named in honor of TCO founder Jon Thomas’ nephew who bravely fought leukemia at only 3 months old. American Top Team CT/KORE BJJ also took home the top fundraising award, raising a combined $15,478.

In total, 159 fundraisers (and generous door-donors) helped raise $84,000 in donations. In total, the tournament generated more than $105,000 (donations, registration fees, merchandise sales, etc.)!

Tap Cancer Out would like to thank this year’s generous sponsors, Inverted Gear, Bumble Bee Booths, Chaos Kimonos, ECMMA Fight Shop, and AK Kimonos for their support.

With two events remaining in the year, we have already surpassed our fundraising efforts of 2015 and look to continue the forward momentum at our Massachusetts BJJ Open on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Danvers, MA, and at our first ever Philadelphia BJJ Open on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in West Bradford Township, PA.

Stay tuned as more information about the next two events become available.
