Tap Cancer Out is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for cancer-fighting organizations on behalf of the grappling community. On April 13th, 2013, we’ll be hosting our second Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open fundraising tournament.

However, this tournament is unlike any other you’ve competed in. That’s because the proceeds of this tournament aren’t going into the organizer’s pocket. Instead, all proceeds from this event will benefit our nonprofit organization and ultimately our beneficiary organization, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

So at this tournament, you’re fighting for more than just your sport, your school, your team and yourself. You’re fighting for others—those who are in the fight of their lives.

See what some of our competitors from last year had to say!

At the Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open, fundraisers who hit a fundraising minimum compete for FREE. After pre-registering, if you set up a fundraising page on our fundraising platform, you have the opportunity to not only earn a complimentary tournament registration, but awesome BJJ gear like shirts, rashguards, patches, DVDs and Gis from Inverted Gear, Digitsu, Lapel Choke, Tap Cancer Out and more!

Plus, we’ll be rewarding our top 5 fundraiser with some amazing prizes along with a Grand Prize for the year’s top fundraiser!

Fundraisers: If you are confident you will reach $200, then choose the Pay-at-Door option. However, if you don’t reach at least $200, you will be subject to the higher entry fees of $60/$80. If you pay online but reach your goal, you will be reimbursed your entry fee after the tournament (you must compete to be reimbursed).

Click the button below to start fundraising (you must still register to compete as well)!

TIMING:

In order to ensure that this tournament runs smoothly, it’s imperative that you ARRIVE ON TIME. Even if you have pre-registered, we WILL NOT DELAY ANY DIVISION if you have not showed up. When the division is scheduled to go, we will start it.

The morning will start promptly at 10:30 with all Gi divisions. The afternoon will feature No-GI.

Since we’re a smaller tournament, ALL DIVISIONS (Black, Brown, Purple, Blue and White belts, male and female) should be registered and weighed in by 9:30 am. We will have a rules meeting at 10:00am and start promptly thereafter.

Because all competitors will be pre-registered, this will cut down significantly on the delay of creating brackets.

ALL NO-GI COMPETITORS, regardless of belt, must be weighed in by no later than 1:30pm. We will close the scales promptly at 1:30pm. If you have weighed in for Gi, you do not have to weigh in twice.

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

The tournament will be hosted in the main gymnasium of Bunnell High School, 1 Bulldog Blvd, Stratford, CT, 06614. Simply go through the main entrance and into the main lobby and you’ll see the registration table. ALL COMPETITORS must check in with the table and sign a waiver.

When approaching the school grounds by car, there are two entrances. Each will have signs for the tournament. You can see a map of the high school with notations of entrances, parking, and main lobby by clicking here.
