Tap Cancer Out is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity organization founded in 2011 that unites the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community around a cause: ending cancer. We achieve this by hosting the most philanthropic BJJ tournaments in the world. All our proceeds are given to our beneficiary organizations, which has resulted in over $525,000 donated to our beneficiaries. If you’ve never heard of our tournaments, they are one-of-a-kind, to say the least. Instead of just paying to compete, tournament competitors can compete for FREE by fundraising on behalf of Tap Cancer Out and our beneficiary, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Plus, the more you fundraise, the more prizes you can earn from our generous sponsors. This is on top of taking part in an incredibly well-organized and positive event.
At this tournament, you’re fighting for more than just your sport, your school, your team and yourself. You’re fighting for others—those who are in the fight of their lives.
Every competitor is encouraged to set up their own fundraising page which will be automatically created for them after registering for the tournament (regardless of what ticket category). Any competitor who raises at least $250 will earn a complimentary registration into the Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open. If you don’t reach the $250 minimum, you just pay the standard entry fee at the door (cash only). The more you fundraise, the more prizes you earn from Tap Cancer Out and our sponsors!
**Please note that donations will not be refunded if a competitor has fundraised but needs to withdraw from competing for any reason. However, the fundraising progress can be applied to a future tournament (in the same calendar year) or transferred to another teammate.
Aside from the free TCO gear, our top four fundraising individuals will also receive a free Tap Cancer Out branded Inverted Gear Gi! Our top fundraising team will be given a trophy, a 6ft banner to hang in their academy, and will be specially recognized at the tournament. On the day of the tournament we’ll be giving away cool prizes from other sponsors, so make sure you register to compete and start fundraising! Osss!!

In order to ensure that this tournament runs smoothly, it’s imperative that you ARRIVE ON TIME. Even though you will have pre-registered, we WILL NOT DELAY ANY DIVISION if you have not showed up. When the division is scheduled to go, we will start it. We reserve the right to start divisions up to AN HOUR EARLY, so please make sure you’re weighed-in and present 90-minutes before the start of y our division.
You can weigh in on Friday night from 6-8pm at the venue or on the day of the tournament starting at 7:30am. See weigh-in times and details below. You do NOT have to weigh in with your Gi. If you are in the highest weight class you DO need to check-in but you do not need to weigh yourself.
The morning will start promptly at 9:45am with a few awards and announcements. All kids divisions start at 10:00am. Juniors and Teens will immediately follow. Adults will take place in the afternoon, starting approximately at 1pm, but please refer to the posted schedule for official times. We reserve the right to start a division up to 60 minutes early, which is why we require you to be present and weighed in 90-minutes ahead of time. You may not be used to tournaments running ahead of schedule, but we take pride in how efficiently we run. That said, we do our best to create an accurate schedule.
ALL KIDS, JUNIORS, AND TEENS should be checked-in and weighed-in by 9:30 am. This will allow us to get all of your divisions organized and brackets set. PARENTS PLEASE NOTE, all kids, juniors and teens divisions will combine males and females to ensure we offer the most matches possible.
ALL ADULTS should be present, checked-in and weighed-in 90 MINUTES before their division is scheduled to start. The scales will close at 90 minutes before the Adult White Belt divisions are scheduled to start. You can weigh-in as early as you’d like, but please make sure to return 90-minutes before your division is scheduled to start.
ALL COMPETITORS WILL RECEIVE A 1LB ALLOWANCE
Our weight classes are slightly different from IBJJF and other tournaments, so please read carefully! The competitor does not have to weigh in with Gi on. You only have to weigh in once. Weigh ins are only available on the day of the tournament, starting at 8am. Competitors will receive a 1lb weight allowance on top of the posted weight maximum to account for scale margin of error. **Divisions may be altered/combined/moved at the tournament director’s discretion!
