San Diego – 2018

January 13th, 2018 | San Diego State University

On January 13, 2018 we landed on the campus of San Diego State University for our fourth San Diego Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open. The southern-California BJJ community packed the gym once again as we welcomed nearly 500 competitors and another 1,000  spectators and supporters.

Jake Mosher from Team Megaton took home the Top Fundraiser Award by raising $3,118. Anna Poore from The Stronghold earned the Top Children’s Fundraiser award with $1,666 raised. The Stronghold also took home their fourth consecutive Top Fundraising Team prize by uniting 31 transacting fundraisers and raising $5,287 as a team.

Ultimately 173 transacting fundraisers (35% all competitors) and 1,199 generous donors helped us raise more than $66,000 in direct donations. In total, the tournament raised more than $86,000, the most ever in San Diego.

Special thanks to our sponsors, including GrapplingX for providing the mats and promoting our event, Inverted Gear for providing kimonos to our top four fundraisers (and showing up to volunteer!), Armor Kimonos for providing a free kimono to our Instagram winner, and BJJ Tees.
