Massachusetts – 2017

November 18th, 2017

On November 18th, 2017 we returned to St. John’s Prep for our fifth Massachusetts Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open, this time held in their brand new athletic facility, much to the excitement of our staff and competitors alike because that place was beautiful!

Chris Block from Fenix BJJ took home the Top Fundraiser Award by raising $3,363. Chase Demello from Xcel BJJ earned the Top Children’s Fundraiser award with $2,653 raised. New England United also took home their third consecutive (and fourth all time) Top Fundraising Team prize by uniting 37 transacting fundraisers and raising $14,931 as a team.

Ultimately 279 transacting fundraisers (46% all competitors) and 2,230 generous donors helped us raise more than $113,610 in direct donations. In total, the tournament raised more than $135,000, the second-most ever behind only Connecticut ’17.

We live-streamed from high above the mats for a few hours. Head to our Facebook page to watch the video.

Special thanks to St. John’s Prep for hosting us again and to our sponsors including Inverted Gear for providing kimonos to our top four fundraisers, and Armor Kimonos for providing a free kimono to our Instagram winner!
