Connecticut – 2018

March 31st, 2018 | East Haven, CT

On March 31st, 2018 we hosted our seventh-annual Connecticut Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open, this time at East Haven High School. The larger facility allowed us to stretch our legs, offer some new features, and welcome another 650 competitors and 1,000+ spectators and supporters.

The race for the top fundraising spot was heated, but perennial top-four finisher Alyson Alberino from Soulcraft BJJ was finally able to take home the Top Fundraiser Award, raising  $3,818, bringing her all-time Tap Cancer Out fundraising total to nearly $14,000!!! This was also the first time a competitor under 16 years old was our top overall fundraiser, so she earned both the Top Fundraiser and our Michael Corb Top Children’s Fundraiser trophies.

KORE BJJ brought together a whopping 67 fundraisers who raised $26,595 to take home their third-consecutive Top Fundraising Team prize. Soulcraft BJJ also did a tremendous job fundraising as a team, uniting 32 fundraisers to raise $17,583.

When all was said and done our 321 fundraisers and 2,926 generous donors helped us raise more than $157,000 in direct donations. In total, the tournament raised more than $187,000!

Special thanks to our sponsors including Inverted Gear for providing kimonos to our top four fundraisers and Armor Kimonos for providing a free kimono to our Instagram winner.
