Connecticut – 2018

March 31st, 2018 | East Haven, CT

On March 31st, 2018 we moved a half hour north on Rt 95 to a new venue, East Haven High School, for our seventh-annual Connecticut Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open. Our flagship tournament had grown so big that we had outgrown our prior home at Bunnell High School, and EHHS welcomed us (and nearly 2,000 spectators and competitors) with open arms.

They day was highlighted by the tremendous fundraising efforts of Alyson Alberino from Soulcraft BJJ. A consistent top fundraiser at our prior Connecticut events (and multiple-time winner of our Top Children’s Fundraiser Award), Alyson became the first fundraiser in our kids division to take home both the Top Fundraiser and (her third straight) Top Children’s Fundraiser Award raising $3,818. Also no stranger to our trophies, KORE BJJ took home their third consecutive Top Fundraising Team prize by uniting 67 fundraisers to raise $26,595.

When all was said and done our 320 fundraisers and 2,924 generous donors helped us raise more than $157,000 in direct donations. In total, the tournament raised more than $187,000!

Special thanks to our sponsors including Inverted Gear for providing kimonos to our top four fundraisers, Armor Kimonos for providing a free kimono to our Instagram winner, and Smoothcomp for providing us with state-of-the-art tournament management software.

**RESULTS: Please note that a few of our White/Grey belt divisions (specifically the large ones that we had to create split round robins) had to be deleted and, thus, will not show up in the results. We had a technical issue that was creating extra (unnecessary) matches and in order to prevent them from showing up on the scoreboards we had to delete the divisions entirely once all matches concluded.
