Connecticut – 2017

April 29th, 2017 | Stratford, CT

On April 29th, 2017 we returned to Bunnell High School for our sixth-annual Connecticut Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open. The gym was literally busting at the seams as we welcomed nearly 700 competitors (a new tournament record) and hundreds more spectators and supporters.

For the second year in a row Fred Macaluso from American Top Team Danbury/KORE BJJ took home our Top Fundraiser Award by raising an all-time record of $11,220 (in about a week!!). Also going back-to-back was Alyson Alberino from Soulcraft BJJ who took home her second consecutive Top Children’s Fundraiser Award raising $4,295. KORE BJJ brought together 32 fundraisers who raised a record-breaking $34,885 to take home the Top Fundraising Team prize (also their second consecutive year).

When all was said and done our 241 fundraisers and 2,484 generous donors helped us raise more than $138,340 in direct donations. In total, the tournament raised more than $172,000!

We live-streamed many of the adult matches including some fierce black belt matches. Head to our Facebook page to watch them.

Special thanks to our sponsors including Inverted Gear for providing kimonos to our top four fundraisers and Armor Kimonos for providing a free kimono to our Instagram winner.

And although we don’t officially have team performance awards, congrats to Abusado Team for earning the most Adult points, Marcelo Garcia CT for earning the most Kids points, and GF Team for most combined points.
