Buffalo – 2017

July 22nd, 2017 | Buffalo, NY

On July 22nd, 2017 we were welcomed with open arms by the Buffalo community for our first ever Buffalo Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open, held in the very unique open air pavilion at Buffalo Riverworks.

Jennifer LaMarca from Buffalo United Martial Arts took home the inaugural Top Fundraiser Award by raising $2,780. Paxton Shafer from The Pit 702 earned the Top Children’s Fundraiser award with $746 raised. Buffalo United Martial Arts also took home the Top Fundraising Team prize by uniting 11 transacting fundraisers and raising $6,912 as a team.

Ultimately 73 transacting fundraisers (nearly half of all competitors) and 602 generous donors helped us raise more than $24,300 in direct donations. In total, the tournament raised more than $30,000, the second-most ever for a city’s first TCO tournament.

We live-streamed many of the adult matches including some fierce black belt matches. Head to our Facebook page to watch them.

Special thanks to our host, Josh Ketry at Buffalo Riverworks and our sponsors including Inverted Gear for providing kimonos to our top four fundraisers, Armor Kimonos for providing a free kimono to our Instagram winner, and The Acai Project for donating $120 of sales and free acai bowls for all volunteers and referees!
